Ziad Abdel Tawab

Short bio

Having been recruited by the United Nations as a Human Rights Monitor in Darfur, Ziad joined the Cairo Institute as International Advocacy Officer following the completion of two postgraduate law degrees complimenting studies at Egyptian, French and U.S universities. After promotion to Advocacy Director, Ziad took up his current role of Deputy Director, a position he has held for 12 years. Sitting under the General Director, Ziad coordinates the Institute’s interconnected programmatic pillars representing Departments dedicated to International Advocacy, Human Rights Research and Dissemination, and Human Rights Education. In this role he maintains oversight of project development, implementation and monitoring. He has lived in five countries and speaks Arabic, English and French. He sits on the council of IFEX and a board member of The Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF) as well as a number of Egyptian and regional human rights NGOs.
