Shireen AL Khatib
Acting Director, Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA)
Short bio
Acting Director of the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) for six months. Started working at MADA for more than 10 years as a project coordinator. I was responsible to achieve the specific objectives of the project (Development of Palestinian media to modern, reducing violations of media freedoms, developing programs that raise the level of media education at Palestinian universities, Development and capacity building of the center and its employees to be able to achieve the mission and objectives).
Before that, I served as Monitoring and Documentation Associate at MADA Center, I was responsible to carry out the duties and responsibilities of a Monitoring and Documentation associate under the Human Rights Based Approach, and other criteria set by the terms of the UN, as MADA was granted a special consultative status at the ECOSOC in 2016, hence, these recorded violations are reflected to the HRM/ Special Rapporteurs.
As a result of my many years of experience in the field of media freedoms and human rights, I became a broad interest in defending human rights, I have been widely recognized In Palestine for this among journalists and media outlets.Â
Looking forward to doing what I can to improve the working conditions for journalists throughout Palestine.
My presence here is a source of pride for me, given the importance of this field in Palestine.
My educational background includes a master's degree in international studies from Birzeit University in Palestine and a BA degree in sociology from the same University. It is my hope that I will be able to continue my PH degree in the near future.
