He Obtained his MA [Master of Arts] and LLB [Graduation in Law] from Dhaka University. Diploma in Journalism from International Institute of Journalism, Berlin, Germany.

His previous professional experiences include working for the country’s oldest newspaper - the Daily Sangbad as Executive Editor and News Editor, Founder News Editor of the Daily Jugantor, Chief Editor of ATN Bangla Television, Chief Editor and CEO of Boishakhi Television, Chief Editor and CEO of Ekushey tv.
Over his more than four decades practical experience in print and electronic media journalism, Bulbul has earned a number of awards and honors home and abroad.
He was elected as President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ for three terms. before he was the secretary General and treasure.
Member of the Bangladesh Press Council 4th term.
Senator of the Dhaka University Senate for 4th terms.

Served as the Director of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) for three terms.
He served as the Director at the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Open University.
He is a part time teacher in the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism at Dhaka University and at the American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB). Advisor to the State University.
He is a guest lecturer at National Defence college, Staff College, Police staff College, Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre and Foreign Service Academy.
He is a reputed journalism trainer home and abroad by renowned organization and Institutions.
He campaigned widely for freedom of expression and a fight to abolish the culture of impunity at the national and international levels.
Previously he served in IFEX Council.
Currently he is the Chair of Media Watch, Bangladesh the oldest organisation for freedom of press and freedom of expression. This organisation is run by a group of professional journalists.
He travelled more than 50 countries for professional assignment.
