Franklin Huizies has 25 years’ experience in the community radio sector in South Africa and globally. He is trained as electronic technician in the South African Navy and is a founder member for Koinonia Community Radio, Radio KC in Paarl. In 2006 the National Community Radio Forum (NCRF) appointed him as national CEO. During his tenure he achieved success in partnerships with the World Bank, European Union through National Health department, IEC national, GCIS etc. In 2008 Franklin was co-opted as Vice President for Southern and East Africa on the Africa chapter of AMARC.org (World Forum for community radio). In 2009 UNESCO contracted him as part of an expert panel to look at sustainability challenges and best practice within community radio sector. He was then elected International Treasurer for AMARC 2010 and finished his term in 2016. During his tenure, he participated as expert on various global panels and conferences including social impact & digital migration. Currently Franklin owns & manage ComRadio (PTY) Ltd, a company providing expert support services to ensure growth and development within the community radio sector. www.comradio.co.za also offers support with compliance, strategic and operational planning for community radio stations . Huizies is currently adviser to the NCRF and freelance Development Communications consultant with Food Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and for the World Forum for Community Broadcasters, AMARC International. He is employed fulltime by the largest community radio station ins South Africa, Jozi Fm as Head of Internal Compliance & Community Participation.
Huizies is passionate about development of community radio and the social impact this sector asserts through public value creation. He is eager to offer his time on a volunteer basis to enhance community radio in neighboring countries in Southern Africa.
